THE MOST HUMBLING PICTURE EVER TAKEN
AUTHOR: vadmin // CATEGORY: Uncategorized No CommentsOn February 14, 1990, famed scientist Carl Sagan gave us an incredible perspective on our home planet that had never been seen before. As NASA’s Voyager 1 spacecraft was about to leave our solar system in 1989, Sagan, pleaded with officials to turn the camera around to take one last look back at Earth before the spaceship left our solar system.
The resulting image, from a distance of 3.7 billion miles, with the Earth as a speck less than 0.12 pixels in size, became known as ‘the pale blue dot”.
In honour of Sagan’s famous earth portrait, Canadian menswear designer, Andre Vassi, has created a limited edition “Pale Blue Dot” tie to be unveiled on February 14. The Italian silk, 7-fold tie features an indigo background reminiscent of the night sky, with a smattering of silvery stars and a single pale blue dot. Inside, the words “one planet, one people – piece, love and unity”.
The Vassi message: “Let us all deal more kindly with one another and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot.”
